BEHOLD THE PEOPLE: Evidence of Things Not Seen
An exhibition that introduces alternative truths and new possibilities around the significance of Juneteenth. The work in this series features images of formerly enslaved peoples in Texas along with portraits developed by visual artist Hakeem Adewumi. Through an incisive re-examination of the Federal Writers’ Project and Black Texan folklore, this collection uses Black visual ethnography to juxtapose and provoke current perceptions of the Juneteenth holiday.
